As a conductor, every performance is a unique journey filled with moments of challenge, excitement, and sheer magic. Reflecting on my experience conducting ‘Magic of Christmas 2022’ with Hummingbird Music Productions, I’m reminded of the incredible journey that led me to that moment and the invaluable lessons I learned along the way.
My journey as a music conductor began in 2017 when my mentor, Mrs. Bernadette Roberts, entrusted me with the opportunity to conduct the Naparima Girls’ High School Steel Ensemble for their Speech Day and Prize-Giving Celebrations. From there, I continued to hone my skills, conducting my first musical in the pit for DNA Productions’ ‘Treasured Possessions’ in 2018. Throughout my undergraduate studies in music, I delved deeper into the art of conducting, learning not only from formal education but also from interactions with fellow conductors and mentors.
When the idea for ‘Magic of Christmas’ began to take shape, I knew it was something special that South Trinidad needed. As the conductor and executive producer for the show, I was deeply involved in bringing this vision to life alongside a dedicated team. The tireless efforts of the entire production team, including Ajnish, Shaye, Sydney, Vandana, and Amilyah, were instrumental in realizing our shared vision for a truly enchanting Christmas concert experience.
Preparing for the show was both daunting and exhilarating. Essential aspect of my preparation process included score study and becoming intimately familiar with the music. Witnessing the music come to life and seeing the musicians respond to my direction was one of the most rewarding moments during rehearsals. While

From ‘Magic of Christmas 2022,’ I emerged with a deeper understanding of leadership from the conductor’s podium, a newfound patience, and enhanced skills in maintaining composure under pressure—lessons that will undoubtedly shape my future endeavours as a conductor.
As we look to the future, ‘Magic of Christmas’ has set a high standard for productions in South Trinidad, and I am excited to continue captivating audiences with future shows. Thank you to everyone who joined us on this magical journey, and here’s to many more unforgettable performances ahead.
